Jarkko Ala-Huikku emerged as a new leading force in the Finnish wrestling scene in 2007, winning bronze at the European Championships and an Olympic quota place for Finland at the World Championships in Baku. In April 2008 he won his first major international title at the European Championships in Tampere, Finland. Jarkko hails from Ilmajoki, the same village as the two-time Olympic medallist Marko Yli-Hannuksela, whose father is also his coach. Jarkko will get his degree in sports journalism in the spring of 2008.
