Jarkko Nieminen is the first ever Finnish player in the highest echelons of world tennis. He first came to the fore in the senior ranks in 2001 by reaching the final of the Stockholm Open indoor tournament. In Auckland in 2006 Jarkko finally took Finland’s first title in the ATP tour. His highest ATP ranking has been 13 following his quarter-final performance at Wimbledon in 2006. Jarkko’s Olympic debut in Athens 2004 was hampered by a wrist injury. He is also a merited doubles player on the ATP Tour but lacks a Finnish partner of Olympic standard. Jarkko likes to relax by playing other games, such as ice hockey, football and badminton. His wife Anu Nieminen is the best female badminton player in Finland and an Olympic competitor herself.
