In 2003 Hanna took her first medal in international senior level by winning European Championship silver medal in air rifle. In 2007 Hanna did exactly the same and this time she was selected for Beijing. Her first international medal was gold in the prone position rifle event at the European Junior Championships of 2001. Hanna is a qualified physiotherapist.

Henri Häkkinen earned his ticket to Beijing with his first major international medal, silver in air rifle at the European Championships of 2007 in Deauville, France. He is a career officer and currently serves as senior lieutenant at a signal unit. In 2006 Henri won the award for the best military athlete in Finland. His favourite hobby is hunting.

Marjut Heinonen won an Olympic quota place for Finland at a World Cup competition in Maribor, Slovenia in 2007. She took up shot gun shooting at 15, following the example of her father and brother. Marjut works a sales supervisor at a department store in Oulu.

JUHA HIRVI

Juha Hirvi is about to make Finnish Olympic history. Beijing will be his sixth Olympic Games, a record that he will share with the dressage rider Kyra Kyrklund and three Winter Games athletes: cross-country skiers Marja-Liisa and Harri Kirvesniemi and ice hockey player Raimo Helminen. Juha’s career at the world elite of rifle shooting spans three decades and is highlighted by Olympic silver in Sydney 2000 and numerous medals at World and European Championships. He gained his ticket to Beijing as early as 2005 by winning a World Cup competition in Fort Benning in his favoured event, small-bore rifle three positions. Since 2004 Juha has served as Chairman of the Athletes Commission of the International Shooting Sport Federation. His favourite pastimes are hunting, golf and harness races.

KAI JAHNSSON

Kai Jahnsson won his ticket for Beijing in the 50-metre free pistol competition at the European Championships of 2007 in Granada. This was a major surprise, as he had only begun competing in free pistol again in 2006 after concentrating for the past six years on air pistol and the non-Olympic center fire pistol events. Kai is a sea rescuer at the Finnish Frontier Guards and is no stranger to dangerous missions in the storms of the Baltic Sea. He is a father of three children and enjoys scuba diving and sailing in his free time.

SATU MÄKELÄ-NUMMELA

Satu Mäkelä-Nummela is enjoying her second career as an elite trap shooter. The highlight of her first career was bronze at the World Championships of 1995 in Nicosia, Cyprus. After giving birth to her second child in 2002 she made a comeback to the Finnish national team. Satu earned her Olympic ticket by winning a World Cup competition in Suhl, Germany in 2006. She is coached by her husband Matti Nummela, who took part in three Olympic Games in 1984, 1988 and 1992, finishing 8th in the trap event in Seoul 1988. Satu works at a coffee shop. She plays in a brass band and also plays the accordion.

Mira Nevansuu is the youngest member of the Finnish shooting team in Beijing. She was the sensation of the 2007 season, winning silver at the European Championships and earning an Olympic quota place in the process in an event where Finland has had little previous success. Mira is coached by her father Seppo. She studies for a vocational degree in textile design.

MARJO YLI-KIIKKA

Events: Rifle events

Marjo made her Olympic debut four years ago in Athens. One year later she won her first international medal at senior level, silver in the 50-metre rifle prone position event at the European Championships in Belgrade. Still, her preferred event is the air rifle. Marjo holds a university degree in agronomy and is currently studying for another one in administrative sciences. Needlework and reading are her favourite pastimes.
