Kyra Kyrklund will make Finnish Olympic history in Hongkong. She will take part in her sixth Olympic Games, a record for Finnish Summer Games athletes. She will share the record with the shooter Juha Hirvi who also competes at the Beijing Games. In fact, this is Kyra’s eighth selection for the Finnish Olympic team: she had to withdraw from both Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 due to problems with her horse. Kyra began her international career in dressage in the 1970’s. Her most famous horse was Matador, with whom she took silver at the World Equestrian Games of 1990 and won the World Cup Final of 1991. Today Kyra is considered one of the most distinguished dressage trainers in the world. She runs her own stable together with her husband Richard White in West Sussex, England.
