MATTI HATAVA

Matti Hatava was one of Finland’s best young archers at the turn of the millennium, finishing eighth at the World Junior Championships of 1998. He gradually lost his motivation for the sport, however, and retired from competitions after the European Championships of 2002. For the next five years Matti concentrated on his civilian career in banking. In 2007 he made a comeback to archery and set his sight on the Olympic Games of 2012 in London. Matti will make his Olympic debut sooner than expected, however: after only one year into his new career he won an Olympic quota place for Beijing by placing second at the fi nal qualification event at Boé, France.
