This was the only Finnish victory at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Games, which were dominated by Swedish skiers and Norwegian skaters. Birger Wasenius and Antero Ojala maintained Finnish medal traditions in speed skating, while Lauri Valonen finish fourth in the Nordic combined and sixth in the ski jump. There were no Finnish participants in the new Olympic sport of Alpine skiing. The Finnish military patrol skiing team won yet another unofficial silver medal.
